Thanks for popping in.
Yes Commander or Western will not operate on a RASPI V3 yet is fine in V1 or V2.
Both load the Linux text fine and scrolls to the end and nothing but a blank screen, or sometimes it will boot to the rainbow. Please don't blame the SD card as I have tried 4 all different makes and non from eBay.
The version 3 system will work no problem with Raspian and other Raspberry software with Windows 10, Word Processors, Music etc. wonderfully but DStar ugh! put the same Commander card in Version 1 or 2 and its boots straight into DStar. I thought it may be the Raspi3 but as the card works in other versions and is SUPPOSED to work in V3 I think maybe not, and as it works fine with Raspian and other Raspberry software, I am REALLY stuck.
Your thoughts would be appreciated
Thanks

I'm running D-Star Commander on 2 different RPi model 3B's (one with a DVAP dongle and one with a dual-band DVMega board) without any problems. Since you seem to have ruled everything else out, I'd guess there must be something wrong with your RPi!

Make sure you're running the latest version of DStar Commander (V2.01), as versions prior to V2 predate the RasPi3 and don't work properly with it.
V2.01 was developed specifically for, and tested with, the Raspberry Pi 3B (and the B, B+, 2B, and Zero).

Yes I realise many stations are using V3 boards without a problem but with respect, this does not help me in any way for the reasons I have mentioned in my LONG and descriptive post ie. "there does not appear to be anything wrong with the board as it works 100% with Raspi software and if I returned the Raspi 3 no doubt they would find the same", it just fails to work with DStar for some obscure reason. Thank you John 73 Peter G8CVF

Unfortunately its a BIG YES I am using V2.1 downloaded twice (thinking the first DL may be corrupt) from your Download page. For interest Bob. Western image is more or less the same except that it does not go to a BLANK desktop but a RAINBOW desktop just to confuse the issue. Think I'll give the idea of using V3 a miss and carry on with V2's which work brilliantly on both my SB Mega and my DB Mega. 73 and thanks again Bob G8CVF

Unless you're using some other software + hardware that's also making use of the GPIO bus on the Pi3, just getting Raspbian or Jessie to load on your Pi3 does not address whether there's a problem with the GPIO and/or BT/WiFi hardware. IOW, you could still have a bad Pi, with problems confined to the hardware IO bus.
Another possibility is that the firmware on your mega is too old...that can be remedied by flashing it with the latest from Guus' website.
Good luck

Hello Bob thanks for the quick reply.
I am not using anything EXTRA on the V3 except DStar. As far as a faulty V3 is concerned whilst I appreciate your thoughts I can see that I have a problem as I have tested the V3 with the software as forementioned and it was faultless, and I feel the supplier the PiHut will do exactly the same and report that it is not faulty and refuse to refund or replace it, however maybe not.
Looking at Guus' website and the possibility of flashing the firmware, I hesitate as I really cannot see that both of my Mega's the SB and the DB which were purchased NEW from DVMega.nl yes from Guus himself only 8 and 3 months ago so although I don't really know, I cannot see it being the firmware, so think now it maybe time to stop looking for a solution.
Thank you again Bob and 73
