From V1.21 of DStar Commander onwards, you can enable and disable CCS7 by setting either "CCS ON" or "CCS OFF" in the URCALL of your radio and transmitting for a few seconds in the same manner as the other RF commands. The gateway has to do a restart to make this change, so don't do this while in a QSO or otherwise linked, because the restart will drop the link. CCS7 is disabled by default when you first set up the hotspot. Turning CCS7 on or off is persistent--i.e. the setting is retained after shutdowns/reboots.
The default config is set to use server CCS706 (the US server). This can be changed by accessing the Gateway Config GUI on the desktop and changing the CCS server from the dropdown tab.
To initiate a connection via CCS7, you can either key in the user's 7-digit CCS ID directly using your radio's DTMF keypad, or if your radio doesn't have a DTMF keypad (a pity, that) you can set "Cxxxxxxx" in the URCALL field and transmit, where xxxxxxx is the 7-digit CCS ID.
To disconnect, either send an "A" from the DTMF keypad, or set "CA " in the radio's URCALL and transmit briefly.
Note: You must have a valid 7-digit CCS ID registered to use CCS7 routing. You do not enter your ID number anywhere in the hotspot--the servers validate your registration with your call. The old 4-digit CCS ID numbers are useless now that the CCS4 servers are gone.

I tried CCSA in the UR field to unlink , both left and right justified, but it didn't work. Tried this on an Icom 80AD and Icom 880H. What am I missing.

Sorry, CCSA was the old CCS4 unlink command...the unlink command is just a "C" in the URCALL field now with CCS7. I edited the post above to reflect the correct command.

Hi Bob. I have the latest D-Star Commander with a RPI. On the software settings I turned IRCDDB on and enabled the CCS. I can not link to any CCS number. I checked IRCDDB it shows not linked and it is in the default mode. I followed the instructions below: "From V1.21 of DStar Commander onwards, you can enable and disable CCS7 by setting either "CCS ON" or "CCS OFF" in the URCALL of your radio and transmitting for a few seconds in the same manner as the other RF commands. I sent an RF command to turn CCS on. Nothing happens and the PI still wont link to CCS numbers. I am using an IC80AS which has DTMF key pad.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks Mike W6OSO

I was going to give CCS7 a try as well, even though there seems to be some significant downsides. My goal was to be able to use CCS7 to "call" another user via RPI Hotspot to Hotspot if that is possible.
I have received my CCS7 ID. When I registered, I stated my home repeater being N1PEB? Should this have been N1PEB B since I am using the UHF DVAP?
Also, do I need to register at ircDDB Gateway also? I see a username and password entry in the ircDDBGateway config window.
FYI: Running the latest D-Star Commander v1.21 (Thanks Bob)

Doesn't matter what you show as your home repeater--that's a DMR thing. And no to ircDDB registration--that's only for actual repeaters with separate club callsigns.

Hi I love the Commander image, I am not able to use the CCS part and I think its due to the Server not being set for CCS706. I only see CCS 001 to 024 What have I missed? Thanks for the help

Sounds like you're using an old pre-CCS7 version of the image. What version (date) appears in the title bar on the ircDDBGateway window?

Yeah, that's an older version...v1.21 incorporates the 20151116 release.

Hello, If this has been answered somewhere else then I apologise in advance, if not then this tip may just help someone. To disconnect from CCS, certainly on my IC-7100, ID51E and IC-2820, I had to issue CA in the URCALL field, a C or A alone did not work on any of my radios. Additionally, if I set the CCS server to 05 for the UK I am unable to establish a connection, through trials I have found that I have to use 01 - all works perfect on all radios. So, to connect send Cxxxxxxx where "x" is the country code and unique ID of the user you wish to contact and send CA to disconnect. I hope that may be of some help to someone, it certainly was to me.
The commander image I find is wonderful - thank you. The issuing of shutdown, reboot, host update and clean up commands work great.

Thanks Mark...I went online again and searched high and low for some definitive documentation on the new CCS7 commands, and could find none. There are a few tutorials that get it wrong, and a lot of old stuff that refers to the older 4-digit CCS mode.
So I went to look at Jonathan Naylor's source code for ircDDBGateway, and in there I found the definitive answer, at least for the 20151116 version of ircDDBGateway used in DStar Commander v1.21: in source file RepeaterHandler.cpp line 2950, the CCS7 disconnect command is indeed defined now as "CA "
Sending a single DTMF "A" does also still work...that's my control mode of choice here.

Greetings,
Can anyone please clarify for me if (and how) CCS7 linking is supposed to work though a DVAP?
A friend and I are both using DVAP's. We obtained our CCS7 ID numbers and have turned CSS on in the ircDDB Gateway's configuration utility of our D-Star Commander Pi's. To test it, I sent a CXXXXXXXX command using my friend's CCS7 ID. Nothing happened on either end. We tried both when linked to a reflector and when not linked.
To work, does CCS linking first require setting up an account with an ircDDB Gateway server then enabling that in the ircDDB Gateway's configuration utility?
Thanks in advance,
John AA7US
