I have changed over from Maryland D-Star to DStar Commander and I like the difference.
I am trying to create a DPlus_Hosts.txt file under the /root directory for some local repeaters not connected to a reflector.
When using Commander File Manager to check if there is a DPlus_Hosts.txt already present, I find I cannot open or view the /root directory – “permission denied”. I can view and edit files in /usr/local/etc if I wish no problem there.
I didn’t have this problem with Maryland D-Star; I could see all files using the Open File Manager. All folders and files where shown in the directory tree. Editing was carried out using Leafpad.
I read somewhere to use the following commands using LXTerminal:
sudo su (system user has all permissions to preform administrative tasks)
cd /root (change to /root directory)
pwd (to confirm I’m in the /root directory)
Is (to look at the contents but this doesn’t work – ‘Command not found’)
I lack knowledge with the Linux operating system sorry. Can someone show me how I can gain permission to the /root directory like I could with Maryland D-Star please?
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is not a permissions issue. If you've run "sudo su" then you have superuser permissions, which you must have to access /root.
"Is" (india sierra) doesn't work because it is not a command...the command is "ls" (lima sierra).

Thank you Bob for pointing out my mistake.
In order to create a DPlus_Host.txt file in the /root directory, I have done it this way: sudo su cd /root pwd ls (directory is empty) leafpad DPlus_Hosts.txt
A new empty text file was created and I have entered my repeaters, saved same and rebooted, works fine.
I am now interested how I can get File Manager to see all files in the /root tree like Maryland. When clicking on the /root directory, I am still unable to see anything, my new DPlus_Hosts.txt isn’t seen. I have looked at the different options in File Manager but can’t see a way of doing this.
I much appreciate your help. Kind regards, Kevin
