Hello, name here IS Dave. I get on reflector 59A most mornings and chat with fellow RV Ham friends. One participant usually uses his cell phone to get to the internet. If i am home I am connected to my fios system. Often I can hear everyone except cell phone guy. Others hear him fine and they all hear me fine. I would think if he got to the teflector i would hear him. On the repeater screen of Commander it shows cell guy at 20% Loss/BER. Why would I experence this loss and not others. My guess it is a result of internet traffic comming to my area.
I would be interested in your expert thoughts on this. Mybe I am missing somthing simple.

If by "connected to FIOS" you mean on fiber to the house and then on wifi within your house, it could well be an issue with your wifi link...congestion, RF issues etc. If you're on ethernet, then I would guess the problem is on cell boy's end, or perhaps something at the reflector (reliability and performance on a number of REF reflectors has been really spotty lately). That said, if it's only cell boy dropping out, it's probably on his end, as it would be affecting the others as well.
Some gateway hardware and software handles dirty streams better than others. What may sound acceptable on one with an iffy stream may sound horrible on another. The old KI4LKF/Free*Star gateway software was one of those that really goes south if the stream isn't fairly clean.
Also, different people have a different idea of "fine." Some folks would call anything better than that which would get you a 2 x 2 signal report on HF "fine".

Bob, many thanks for your reply. I had similar thoughts. I was using my wifi and one room away i was getting 2 bars on the pi. I switched to ethernet and will give that a tray for a few days. Thanks again 73 Dave N4XYZ
