I've read the 'Additions and Minimisations' txt describing how to launch the two apps in the background. It doesn't seem to work although I believe I followed the txt provided. Any help would be grateful.

Dstar Repeater and irccdgateway as indicated in the readme file on Pi Desktop

No, that won't work with DStar Commander as-written...the commander front-end always invokes the GUI versions of the gateway and repeater modules. Those instructions are for the Western DStar build of ircddbgateway that DStar Commander, in turn, was built on.

Thank you for your response. I note that LXTerminal automatically launches and opens on the Desktop as Pi boots up. Is there a way to stop this.

You can remove the file /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart to stop the terminal from automatically running.
