All:
While I realize the lack of enthusiasm to modify DStar Commander to deal with every tiny change that comes down the pike, the news about the switch to CCS7 seems worthy of attention.
I have two ircDDB Gateways based upon the "Western DStar" image which I have updated using the "klxupdate" mechanism, but I have two more in which I run DStar Commander which I suppose should be updated, too. I realize that the klxupdate option was purposely disabled in DStar Commander, so what can I do to modify my two DStar Commander gateways to enable CCS7?
I use CCS linking fairly often, so when the existing CCS servers are turned off I'll be unable to use CCS if I can't upgrade my gateways.
Then the next question will be how to obtain a CCS7 ID. My existing CCS ID is 1291 but thus far I cannot find anywhere to register for the new system. A couple of friends suggested I register as a prospective DMR user since DMR user registrations are already CCS7 compliant, but but since I own no DMR equipment that seems a silly way to do it, unless the Germans who run the XReflector/DCS Reflector system have decided to hand off the registration process to the DMR folks...
Thoughts, anyone?

UPDATE 08/27:
Two points:
I was able to obtain a CCS7 registration number (3109322) from DMR-MARC in a couple of hours.
I'm surprised that no one has responded to my original message. Does no one else use CCS linking? Interesting! Many of my friends use it although I admit it's a bit of an IQ test for many... such as making sure your Gateway is disconnected from a reflector lest you confuse those listening via a reflector. Still it's a useful tool which I'm not anxious to lose. Jess

I use it,i also had to re register for the new ccs7 id.but its going to take some time before everyone re registers in order to for the system to work like the old one.what i like about it is,the person making the call to another user has to be unlinked from any reflector, but the person you are calling can be linked to anything and your call still goes thru.

* * * Use this info at your own risk. It has not been fully tested with the automated config routines in DStarCommander. Make backups of any files you change. Any problems may(or may not) require you to reimage your DStar Commander disk. You have been warned * * * * * * * * IMPORTANT: If you are NOT an active CCS user today then now is NOT the time to try and start using it. You will get frustrated as the new system is going through some startup issues. It WILL be fixed and stable. Wait until the middle of October and you'll have a much better experience. Bob is absolutely right not to have an automatic update. This is good practice to have a stable system between major releases. It has proven to be effective with DStar Commander. Below is what I have done in test mode AFTER making a copy of EVERY file that I changed. The below is NOT automatic and is NOT for anyone who doesn't understand Linux commands. The original poster in this thread said that he had several Western DStar images that had been upgraded. I did the following to get an ircddbgateway program that I could test. The better option would have been to compile from scratch but I just didn't have the time to do that. Steps: - upgraded a Western DStar image to have the ircddbgateway and related files for the release 20150820. This took SEVERAL runs of klxupdate (maybe that is fixed with what Brian did a day or 2 ago). Make sure your Western DStar image is running the right version by looking at the startup entries in the log. If you don't see 20150820 or later then you don't yet have a valid CCS7 version. - backed up all files in the DStarCommander image /usr/local/bin that start with ircddb* IIRC that was 3 files. - copied those 3 files from the Western DStar image to the DStar Commander image - backed up /usr/local/etc/CCS_Hosts.txt and then copied that file from the Western DStar image. - in /etc/ircddbgateway change the ccs_Host= to ccs_Host=CCS704 - reboot the DStar Commander image. Check the log to be sure it is running the ircddbgateway program 20150820. Then you can check the CCS dashboard for repeaters to see if your hotspot is connected to CCS704. Connect to the hotspot from a DStar radio and transmit (note: reflector connection is not needed). Look at the CCS Live page to see if you show up. This takes usually <5-10 seconds. Note: There are still some issues where CCS704 stops reporting to the live page. The folks in Germany are working on the bugs. If you don't see your transmission on the live page then it may still be ok.. Wait a couple of hours and try again. CCS Live: ccs001.xreflector.net/live_seite/CCS Repeaters: ccs001.xreflector.net/ccs_rptstatus.htmRegistration for a CCS7 id: (it will route you to the correct page which is DMR-MARC for the USA: register.ham-digital.net/Info in English: register.ham-digital.net/html/ccs7-ENG.htmlGeneral page for all sorts of Digital goodness going on in Europe: xreflector.net/neu3/* * * As said at the beginning: use this info at your own risk. It has not been fully tested with the automated config routines in DStarCommander. Make backups of any files you change. Any problems may(or may not) require you to reimage your DStar Commander disk.
