I am having difficulty with the Interactive Setup.
I am running WinXP, and have a functioning image of D-Star Commander 2.0 on the card.
When completing the prompts through Interactive Setup, I get the message that the config has written to the card and the window closes.
Yet when I boot the Pi, there is nothing configured.
Looking at the card after completing the setup, I only see two files with the current date/time. cmdprocess.conf and disable_onboard_bt.
How can I verify that the Interactive Setup Configuration is correct on the card (other than booting)? Or, what files should I see configured after booting the Pi? As an example, I see nothing customized in the wpa_supplicant.conf file. But I don't know if I should... :-)
As a side note, I had the same issue with V 1.21, and had to manually configure everything. I had trouble getting the wifi set up, and thought the Interactive would be a much cleaner way.
Thank you very much.
Mike (who's trying to learn linux...)

Mike;
If you look through the cmdprocess.conf file while the SD card is still mounted in the PC, you should see in that file all the particulars you set when running the DStarConfig.exe configuration program.
It sounds to me like you may not be waiting long enough for the program to run though initial setup. It takes as long as 4-5 min on the older/slower Pis, and it runs in the background and it may not be obvious that it is running. Also, if there is no internet connection available to the Pi during the first run setup, things may get hung up...for example if you have MAC address enumeration or equivalent running on your router (i.e. only known devices from a list of hardware MAC addresses are permitted to connect) and if your Pi's WiFi dongle isn't allowed to connect, then the setup may get hung up. One option might be to try and run the initial setup with the Pi on an ethernet cable to see if it runs.

Thank you, Bob.
I do see the info in the conf file. Thank you for that.
The Pi I'm using is a version 2 Model B. New a few weeks back. Should't be too slow...
I tried it a few more times, connected via ethernet.
I even went ahead and wrote the image fresh to the card, and completed the Interactive Setup again.
Upon boot, the Pi goes to the 'home' screen, but never loads the gateway and repeater log pages. I let it ride for over ten minutes. Rebooting brings up the logs, but still has the repeater set up as 'NOCALL'. So it does not appear to be processing the configuration.
You mentioned it runs the config in the background, and may not be obvious. Is there a way to tell when it's done?

Make sure you have the correct version of the image...there are two, one supports the Pi with a DVAP connected via USB cable, the other the dvMega seated on the GPIO pin header. The image version must match the device. Which device are you using?
When the init is done, the Pi should reboot and the ircddbgateway and dstarrepeater programs should start. If you have a monitor connected, you could try the command "ps -A" and verify that python is listed as a running process.

I am using a 70cm DVMEGA. Using the DStarCommander_2.00_DvMega.zip download. Should be good there.
Good info on what I should be seeing on my screen. I have not had the device reboot on its own yet. I have had a monitor connected, and now have been trying with an ethernet connection.
I will try looking at the ps -A results.
Thanks again for your help. I'll report back.

Well... I went ahead and downloaded the Mega image again, just in case. You know, start from scratch. Wrote the new image, and completed the Interactive setup, but quite minimally. No to email & text, one wireless network, etc. After 25 minutes, still no reboot. This is the tail end of the ps -A: Not sure what I should be seeing here.

python should be listed as one of the running processes. It's apparently not, suggesting that the preprocessor has crashed for some reason.
Need to know how you're configuring the program, e.g. your inputs to the questions in DStarConfig.exe A copy of the cmdprocess.conf file (found on the SD card after running DStarConfig.exe) might also be helpful. I'm wondering if you're doing something nonstandard, like maybe including a module with your callsign, syntax issue, or other.

Thanks for the reply, Bob.
I got to thinking about each of the responses I've used during the attempts. I do have some special characters in my wifi password. I wonder if that may be it. That is a constant that has been in each attempt. Maybe I'll give it a whirl with a different PW and see.
I think I'm going to throw the towel in on the Interactive Setup for now.
I've got the image running nice and smooth. I did have to fiddle a bit with getting my static IP set up - didn't realize that the commands were different in Jessie.
All a learning experience.
Any tips on manually setting up multiple wifi configs - with automatic connectivity based on availability? That was my primary reason to go with the Interactive Setup. I've found a bunch of conflicting info out there.
Thanks again, your D-Star Commander rocks!

I am having all the same issues using V2.0 with UHF DVAP on pi2b. Gateway or Repeater not starting and DStarConfig.exe is not writing anything to the SD Card. Able to start gateway & repeater manually with manual input of all config info. Not all RF Commands work and pi has to be shut down with "sudo halt"! Internet ethernet is o.k.! Hope this helps. After many attempts to use DStarConfig.exe it would error stating "Drive not formatted"; would you like to format now? Even though I previously formatted the disk I continued with another format with image installed and final attempt to Configure worked I loaded card into Pi and it booted. Problem now is that every time I transmit there is a full strength RF interference and occasionally while not transmitting! This is on a Pi 2B. Do you suggest I try on my new Pi 3B or wait for your advice? Thank You for all your help Bob.

Sorry for the delay.
I finally got some time to play with the Interactive Setup again.
The problem was the fact that I had a special character in my WIFI password fields. That was causing the install to fail.
My 'workaround' was to enter a bogus password and complete the install. Then I went in and edited the config file afterwards.
We're up and running.
Three WIFI networks, selecting automatically, based on availability.
Color me a happy camper.
Thanks again, Bob.

If you send me an e-mail and let me know which special character we're talking about, I'll have a look to see if anything can be done to bulletproof DStar Commander a bit better. w6kd att yahoo dott com
