After using DR mode, radio commands no longer work

I'm using DStar Commander with the DVMEGA DUAL on a Raspberry Pi 3 (and loving it!).
After reading a thread on the Kenwood_TH-D74 forum about using DR mode for hotspots (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Kenwood_TH-D74/conversations/topics/1031), I was convinced that I should switch to doing so (see especially message 7). So I set up memory channels for use with the DVMEGA with DStar Commander using DR mode (RPT 1 = KE0FHS B and RPT 2 = KE0FHS G).
After I switched from DV to DR mode, everything worked fine except that after the first time I linked to a reflector using DR mode, I can no longer use radio commands (like SHUTDOWN, REBOOT, etc.). This remains true even if I shut down, power off both the RPi and radio , and then restart.
I have two images for testing two different methods of WiFi switching (auto and manual), so once I noticed this on one of the images, I put in the other image and tested it, too. Here's the sequence I tested:
1. Start up.
2. Link to a repeater using DV mode. Transmit. Unlink. All successful.
3. Use the radio command REBOOT (saved in a DV memory channel). Successful.
4. Link to a repeater using DR mode. Transmit. Unlink. All successful.
5. Use the radio command REBOOT. Not successful. Logging message in ircDDB Gateway: KE0FHS is trying to G2 route with ircDDB disabled. (Note: None of the radio commands work.)
6. Manually shut down and power off both the RPi and the radio. Restart.
7. Use the radio command REBOOT. Not successful. Same logging message.
8. Manually shut down and power off both the RPi and the radio. Restart.
9. Link to a repeater using DV mode. Transmit. Unlink. All successful.
10. Use the radio command REBOOT. Not successful. Same logging message.
I've also tried creating DR channel memories for the radio commands, but they fail, too, with the same logging message.
I figure there are several things that could be happening, but I don't know how to tell which:
1. The TH-D74A might not be properly changing from DR mode to DV mode (the radio is relatively new and they're still ironing out some bugs). But I doubt this is the issue, since I'm shutting off the radio between tests, and in some of the tests (like #9 above), start using it in DV mode and fail right after that.
2. Something gets changed in the DStar Commander configuration once I use DR mode. But if this is the case, I don't know how to reconfigure it back to the setup to allow radio commands to work again (at least, not without starting over with a totally new image and setup).
3. Despite what I read in the Kenwood_TH-D74 forum thread, I really shouldn't be using DR mode with DStar Commander.
4. Something else?
Can anyone shed more light on this? This issue is, of course, that I can no longer use the DVMEGA with DStar Commander headless after it gets in this state.
