Run the config and make sure you are typing the hot spot name correctly. It is case sensitive on some phones. Also make sure of the password as it is also case sensitive. The security should be typed in as WPA2. Turn off the PI and anything else that is searching for the hot spot. Then enable the hot spot, wait about 2 minutes, power up the Pi and see if it connects.

Also, make sure there are no blanks or apostrophes in the SSID or password.

I have tried all of the suggestions that I have found, and still can't get my RSP to connect to the phone. I am using a very simple SSID in all CAPS, with a very short, simple password that has only letters and numbers. I bought a new WiFi dongle. I have even made the hotspot on my phone, completely open, no password and no encryption, and the RSP still will not connect. It will connect to my house WiFi, with a more complicated name and significantly more complicated password. I have the Wifi for the phone as WiFi 1 and have that set as the priority. I have even set up all 3 of the profiles to be the phone, and it still will not connect. For the phone I am using RSN (the phone is set to WPA2 when I use a password) with the encryption CCMP. I have tried it with all of the combinations of settings that I can set in the .config file. And I make sure that I run SETCONF every time I make a change. And I have USESETCONFIG=yes every time. Everything seems to be running like it is supposed to, but my RSP will not connect to my phone's hot spot. So I am here to get some suggestions from the experts.

What kind of phone?
Have you tried connecting any other kind of device to the phone to make sure that the hotspot is functioning on the phone?
Also, make sure the phone's hotspot isn't set to use 5 GHz...the Pi3 and virtually all of the dongles that work on the Pi are 2.4 GHz only.

It is an Samsung S7 Active. I have connected my laptop to it, and that connects just fine. I have connected some laptops that we have at the club shack also, and they worked just fine. And they are older laptops. I will go verify that it wasn't set for 5GHz, but I would imagine that it would switch if needed. I don't think it was, but I will verify that.
Thanks

My Galaxy S6 does not switch autonomously...it has to be set to one band or the other.

Bob,
I went looking for some additional setting and found two others that were influencing the 5GHz settings. I corrected them and now everything works great!
Thanks
