I'm running the D-Star Commander DVMega image 1_11 on the Model 2 Raspberry Pi with the DVMega board. It appears to be running correctly but I wonder if there is a quirk in either my installation or the software. For example, when I link to a reflector, or even when I happen upon a reflector on which a QSO is occurring, then every channel on my ID-31A including the operational settings such as Unlink or CQCQCQ carries the audio from that QSO. It's impossible to unlink from the QSO's audio by just selecting another reflector and kerchunking or by keying Unlink. It requires waiting at the Unlink setting until there's enough of a pause in the QSO to send the Unlink command. This makes operation some cumbersome since if I happen to land on a reflector on which a QSO is occurring, then I'm stuck with that QSO no matter what other reflector I try to listen or link to. I hope I've explained this clearly enough. Thanks, Alan, K2RHK

That's exactly how it works. The channels associated with your hotspot in your ID-31 (I'm assuming you're using someone else's channel programming) are all going to be on the hotspot freq, and the URCALL field is only used to send commands to the hotspot. So if your hotspot is on 443.45, then all your hotspot-associated memory channels will be receiving on that freq, with different URCALLs used to send commands (except CQCQCQ, which is used for comms once the hotspot is linked).
If you have an Android device (phone, tablet) you can get the free ircddb remote app from Google Play and force a disconnect at any time from that.

Thanks very much for the replies. I understand about the channel/hotspot situation now. There are only iPhones and iPads in this household, but I do have VNC Viewer running on the iPad and can view the Pi's screen. Is there a way of forcing a disconnect from the Pi's screen? Alan, K2RHK

No, not really. I guess you could shut down the ircddbgateway and restart it if you were desperate (but not really a recommended technique).

This is out on a limb, having not tried it. But virtual box can run an android package. If the remote was loaded into it, it might work. Just an idea. Probably not the best one.

Alan, K2RHK Hi Alan: Evidently Commander comes pre-programmed so that if you save a memory in your HT/rig with SHUTDOWN in the UR field (where you would have CQCQCQ for normal conversation) it will turn off the Raspberry Pi. You can similarly program another memory putting "REBOOT" in the UR field to reboot the Pi. Having carefully avoided reading the FAQ's here, I tried to "re-invent the wheel" by programming those commands myself. RTFM, as they say.... my bad. I'm still having some issues getting Commander to reliably decode my DTMF tones... probably another FAQ I failed to read! 73 Jess

@jess--my dvMega seems to be quite a bit more finicky with DTMF tones than my DVAPs. I suspect this is hardware-driven, as they're all running the same software. I found that slower, more deliberate tone bursts work better, and on radios like the 7100/5100, slowing down the burst rate (aka DTMF speed) helps a lot. (200ms setting works well here)

Again, thanks to all. The ircDBB Remote app is now available for the iPhone and iPad and I installed and configured it last night. It works fine and does exactly what I had wanted about forcing a disconnect. Also, once the list of favorite reflectors is set up it's really convenient the way it connects hands free from the HT.
