Hello all,
I have a Raspberry Pi 2 with a dual band DV Mega and running DSTAR Commader version 1.11. For the most part all works well except...
-After I'm done with a net or DSTAR activity I unlink and turn my ID-51 off and leave the Pi running.
-I work shift work so I come back a few days later and try to link with no response from the Pi
-Using VNC viewer I connect to my Pi to see what's going on.
-I notice that the ircDDB application is disappeared from the screen but the terminal and respecter app are still running.
-I have to double click several times and the ircDDB app relaunches and is fine for about a day, the. It randomly shuts down again.
-is there something I have set incorrectly? I have had running in the past on a different setup a DVAP on a B+ with just G4KLX software have have never had this happend and would run the Pi for weeks at a time with no issues.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and 73's

A few previous versions of ircDDBGateway had problems with these sorts of random shutdowns, but I have not had troubles with the version used in the DStar Commander image. My V1.11 dvMega dual-band gateway has been running continuously for well over a month here.
I can think of a few things that might...might...cause issues, for example an iffy power supply, an unstable wifi data connection, an overheating Pi etc. If you're using wifi, you might try putting the Pi on a wired LAN connection and see if the problem persists. Also, set up an address reservation in your router so that the Pi always gets the same IP address from the router's DHCP server.
In general, if something terminates abnormally, reboot the Pi rather than just restarting the program.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to re-flash and reconfigure the SD card just in case something got corrupted, either.
Regards

Bob,
Thanks so much for the quick reply!
-My power supply is the same of several that I own that are rated 5V 2.4A, never had an issue before with any of them but I can trade one out to make sure.
-I am on WiFi using the "WiPi" adapter sold by element 14, no issues before on this one either, but I can definitely try a LAN connection to see or another WiFi adapter to make sure.
-The IP Address seems to stay the same because I've accessed it using the same address using my VNC viewer.
-I have refreshed the whole card and image before but I can also try it again which will be the third time. I even re downloaded the file from the forum and started from fresh.
-Thanks again for the suggestions, I'll try some things out and see what happens!

I have had the same issue, on the western Dstar program and have noticed it on DV commander as well. I had a script to restart it on western dstar image but not sure how or where to place it on DV commander too do the same.

Not all USB power supplies are as rated. I've found 3 things that have caused me problems: - WIFi dongles other than the EDIMAX tend to suck a lot of current. One from Adafruit that was rated for the PI needed a powered hub to work for example. EDIMax seems fine directly on the pi - some cables don't have big enough wire to work well at higher current draw. - cheap power supplies meant for cell phones are less than perfect even if rated at 2amps.
For sure if running plug in boards like the DVMega/DVAP and others make sure that the power system is optimal.
