Hi thanks for dropping in.
My 'in car' Hotspot a DVMega and Pi 3 using Commander image went QRT for an unknown reason (using a stabilised regulator as well), I have bought the latest Pi3 B+ to rebuild the setup BUT! the system will not boot further than a full size RAINBOW. I have done a bit of 'online' reading and it appears the 'latest' Pi B+'s do not like "old" software, I could only get it past the Rainbow stage by burning a latest copy of Raspian image.
I have since bought a 'second user' P3 and that worked perfectly with all the different SD cards I have tried in the B+ i.e. Commander, Western, PiStar, Noobs and finally Raspian which DID work.
I would like to use the Pi with Commander so any ideas are appreciated Thanks

DStar Commander is not, at this time, compatible with the RasPi 3B+. The 3B+ needs a new version of the OS to support the new hardware, e.g. dual-band onboard wifi, specifically Raspian Stretch, a variant of Debian 9.
It would seem that the older build of the G4KLX software I am using does not compile on Raspbian Stretch because the old version of the wxWidgets cross-platform library it uses does not appear to be supported any longer.
Bottom line...get a spare RasPi model 3 or an earlier version if you want to continue using DStar Commander, as its future with the 3B+ and future Pi boards going forward is unclear at present. Alternatively, the software does still work with current versions of the RasPi Zero W or WH.

Thank you Bob sorry to be late with this reply.
A friend of mine is ADAMANT it will/should work with the B+ simply because the B+ is included on the list of OK Raspi's. As I have mentioned, I tried 'forever' to get it past the rainbow stage of which I am VERY familiar with but gave up.
I have now bought a second user Raspi 3 and the Mega is now 100% again. I will from what you say 'assume' there are no plans to modify the 2.01 software a great pity however I suppose the new 3B+ with all it's modified 'bells and whistles' is a little 'overkill' for use with a Mega but of course the Raspi 3's will die out eventually in favour of the 3B+ but maybe not in my lifetime cos I'm a very oldun!
Wanna buy the new Pi 3 B+ in 'as new condition' ? kiddin!
73 and thanks again Bob.

The B+ (released in Jul 2014) and the 3B+ (March 2018) are most definitely not the same...the B+ followed the model B, and perhaps could now be retroactively redesignated the 1B+ to set it apart from the 3B+ of 2018 vintage.
I haven't given up completely on it yet, but it appears that a complete rebuild of the software with MMDVMHost replacing ircddbgateway would be required to get things working under Raspbian Stretch (and by extension on the 3B+), and the work required is probably a bridge too far given the current availability of other good options like Pi-Star and the KB5RAB images for MMDVMHost.
